Traditional open field agriculture across the world heavily depends on weather conditions. To reduce dependency on weather and improve crop production, farmers are adopting technologies that not only predict the weather, but also offer insights on how it will impact crops. Accurate weather predictions are essential for farmers to make informed decisions about planting, irrigation, fertilization, and pest control.
Startups such as California-based Jupiter Intelligence warn agriculture workers of potential droughts, wildfires and floods in their area so they can prepare for sudden weather changes.
Another, California-based startup, Climate AI, allows growers to not only anticipate weather changes, but take advantage of them. If a specific area is expected to see more rainfall, growers can plant crops that rely on more rain.
Farmers feel that AI-based systems can give much more predictive insight to what the likely risk ranges are for farmers and buy better insurance products. AI-driven weather forecasting systems can detect early signs of severe weather conditions, enabling early warning systems for farmers.
AI is also used to analyze the impact of climate change on agriculture by examining long-term weather patterns
By combining weather forecasts with AI-driven data analysis, farmers can predict crop yields more accurately.
